Things I wish I knew when...

Now that I can look back on almost 4 months as a military spouse, there are a lot of things I wish I knew about the military when I got married.  The thing that would have helped the most was a list of things I should do, now that I am a military spouse.

iParticipate Week: Hollywood Helps

This week on TV, you've probably noticed a lot of commercials for iParticipate.org.  iParticipate is a creation of the Entertainment Industry Foundation "designed to inspire a new era of service and volunteerism." This multi-year campaign "hopes to make service a part of who we are as Americans and show what we can achieve when we all pull together." Blue Star Families is proud to be one of four organizations to partner with the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) in the effort to support military families.

Are college degrees worth it? Add up the cost of your education then total the income generated from your degree to determine if your college degree has paid off. How about a variety of work experiences and assorted training? Do they add to your earning power?

Blue Star Families D.C. members recently had the opportunity to meet with Deborah Mullen, a well known advocate for military families and a veteran military spouse.  Mrs. Mullen is the wife of Admiral Michael Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

I was a guest on a local radio program recently where the topic was military spouse and family issues. I am always surprised when I get invited to speak on behalf of military spouses, since on any given day I make mistakes that surely no seasoned seaworthy wife would make.
