Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend President Obama's first Twitter Town Hall at the White House for Blue Star Families. I paid close attention to the tweets regarding the military, defense spending, and veterans.
My dad just got back from one year at war in Afghanistan. I know that for someone who's not part of a military family this might sound unimaginable, but for me it's part of my life. Since I'm only 12, this war and the things that come with it are the only thing I've ever known.
Today President Obama announced 50 new programs for military families in a news conference with Mrs. Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. The announcement comes as the culmination of a presidential directive and the findings of the Military Family Interagency Committee, created in 2010 to institutionalize support for military families as a national security priority.
