Blue Star Museums: A World of Opportunity for Military Families
For most Americans across the country Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer. You can feel the excitement in the air.
Blue Star Families feels the excitement too, but for a different reason. It is an honor and a privilege to announce that Blue Star Museums (a partnership between Blue Star Families and the National Endowment for the Arts) will embark in it’s 3rd season of offering FREE ADMISSION to active duty service members, national guard, reserve members and up to five of their dependents to over 1600 (and growing) participating museums across the United States.
Blue Star Museums officially kicked off Monday the 28th of May (Memorial Day) and runs throughout the summer season ending on Monday, the 3rd of September (Labor Day). Blue Star Museums is also holding national museum events across the country to highlight this wonderful program along with the opportunity to engage and expose those who serve along with their family to the arts. This past week BSF and the NEA launched the season with two wonderful museum events. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC graciously opened their doors and provided an amazing tour of some of their most popular exhibits, including the Arms and Armor Gallery – always a big hit with the kids, even the kids over 30! The MET is an amazing museum and contains precious artifacts from all over the world. With so much to see and learn we barely scratched the surface.
Next, we headed to downtown Charleston, South Carolina for a lovely tour of the Gibbes Museum with some cast members for the TV show Army Wives. Both museums offered something for everyone! And that’s just it – museums offer something for everyone. The opportunity to take in our cultural heritage and history is an amazing opportunity for military families members all summer long!
