About

Blue Star Families was formed in April 2009 by a group of military spouses to create a platform where military family members can join with civilian communities and leaders to address the challenges of military life. Blue Star Families includes active duty, National Guard, Reserve, wounded, transitioning service members and their families from all ranks and services, as well as veterans and civilians who strongly support us.

We are nearly 95,000 strong at 46 chapters around the globe.

We are committed to connecting one another through the unique challenges of military service and asking the larger civilian population to help as well, strengthening military families regardless of rank, branch of service or physical location, and leading military family members towards opportunities to build strength in individuals, families and communities.

Blue Star Families strengthens military families and our nation by connecting communities and fostering leadership.

We accomplish this through local chapter-based community events and by serving as a bridge between families and support and service organizations that are striving to help make military life more sustainable.  Through outreach and involvement with national and local organizations, civilian communities and government entities, Blue Star Families works hand in hand to share the pride of service, promote healthier families, aid in our military readiness and contribute to our country's strength.

Our programs include Books on Bases, Blue Star Museums, Operation Honor Corps, Blue Star Theatres, Operation Appreication and a suite of military spouse employment initiatives that include interactive Blue Star Spouse Networks and Blue Star Jobs. We have most recently developed a unique Caregivers Empowering Caregivers program and are actively outreaching to help educate and inform this underserved population.

Additionally, BSF empowers families through our prestigious fellows programs. Launched in response to a widening unemployment gap among military spouses, the Fellowship Program is a unique leadership opportunity. Fellows are sponsored by corporate partners who share a commitment to support and enrich military families and their respective communities.  Read more about our fellows here.

At the heart of our organization are volunteers like Kate Pennington who, as the Blue Star Families' Salute to Distinction Award winner, has set the bar high for exemplary volunteerism and dedication to serving our military communities.  Our Chapter Directors, located at bases around the globe, are tireless boots-on-the-ground folks.
