On April 7th, Blue Star Families announced the winner of the 2016 Blue Star Neighbor Award! It was an exciting night and surely not to be soon forgotten for a military spouse and her
Blue Star Neighbor!
The Blue Star Neighbor award was created to highlight the amazing support that many of our service members and their families experience in our communities. The ceremony allows men and women in uniform and their family members to publicly thank and acknowledge the neighbor who has gone above and beyond in supporting them. By honoring a citizen who has stepped up and reached out to a new military neighbor and offered support and friendship, we hope to continue to build bridges across our community.
This year’s Blue Star Neighbor Award winner, Joy Goulette, was nominated by Colleen Cekovsky, a National Guard Spouse with two small children. Her husband recently deployed to Afghanistan. Joy, who has three small children of her own, set up a network of people to deliver weekly meals
with notes of support to Colleen’s family during the recent deployment. Colleen said that Joy wanted to make her life easier during a tough deployment, but she will never know how much it truly meant to her. Those notes of support and encouragement are what got her through her husband’s deployment.
Thank you, Joy! You’re simple acts of kindness are appreciated by military families reading this worldwide! We salute you!
