We’ve all heard a number of times the great benefits available to us as military families. From the TSP and tax-free income during deployment, to Tuition Assistance and MyCAA, there is no doubt that we have many unique financial opportunities. When my husband and I left active duty for the California Air National Guard, we were floored by some of the benefits we receive as a veteran in California. Here are some of our top “less talked about” resources for military families!
Have you checked out professional certifications offered by your service’s online learning portal? Active Duty, Guard and Reserve can take advantage of these free, or considerably reduced, courses that will prove to pay you back in dividends later in your career. For example, in the Air Force portal go to “AF e-learning.” On the Skillport portal, select College Credits and Certifications. Certifications include Microsoft Office certifications, Project Management Professional, Six Sigma, etc.
It goes without saying that USAA is hands down, an incredible military benefit. If you are curious if your finances are on track for what YOU want to be able to provide for your family, click HERE for a 3-minute tool to help you determine if you are on track. Better yet, call them directly. USAA’s financial planners are amazing and are here to make sure we all succeed with our financial goals.
If you receive a disability rating as a veteran in California, your children will receive free tuition and fees at all California community colleges, University of California or Cal State schools. Not in California? To view veterans’ benefits in your state, click HERE.
