It’s Summer! Grab a Book and Dive In!
Are you prepping for a PCS this summer? Has your installation lost their library due to budget cuts? Don’t have the time to participate in a local summer reading program? Well, Blue Star Families has the answer with our Books on Bases Summer Reading Program. This is a convenient, virtual summer reading program that allows parents to track their child’s reading over the summer, no matter where you are in the world!
Studies have shown that over the summer children can lose up to 60% of what they learned during the school year. This can impact a child’s literacy skills causing them to fall behind on their current reading levels. No one wants their child to start the next school year behind, so it is very important that parents encourage their children to continue reading a minimum of 30 minutes each day.
Blue Star Families’ Books on Bases program wants to be a resource to military parents, helping them motivate their children to continue reading throughout the summer. That is where our Summer Reading Program comes in. Simply download your summer reading log. Every time your child completes a book over the summer, log it in. If you fill an entire log, print out another one and continue logging the books your child reads! Be sure to submit your completed logs by September 5, 2016. At the end of the campaign, Books on Bases will award prizes selected from everyone who reads at least 5 books!
