Blue Star Families is an organization built on the strength of its volunteer network. These volunteers, who provide vital links to local military communities, give selflessly of their time, talent and resources. The Blue Star Families Salute to Distinction Award Program recognizes our outstanding volunteers who demonstrate exemplary service to military families and further the Blue Star Families mission within their respective communities.

It is our pleasure to announce the 2016 Salute to Distinction Quarter 3 Award Winner: Lana Bonotan, Chapter Director, Travis Air Force Base.

Lana has shared Blue Star Families with thousands of service members and their families at Travis AFB and Luke AFB. Here is a comment from her nomination letter:

“Lana frequently travels to Luke AFB; when she heard that we were searching for a Chapter Director there, she offered to participate in events at Luke until we found someone to take over. Lana’s innovative ideas have boosted Blue Star Families’ visibility at Travis and at Luke. Because of her efforts, our membership at Luke has grown to over 500 families, and our membership at Travis has surpassed the 1000 mark! Lana participates in every event opportunity she hears about and tells everyone she knows about BSF. Her smile is so welcoming that it would be hard for anyone to say no!”

So far in 2016, Lana has volunteered almost 500 hours of her time supporting various Blue Star Families events in California and Arizona, including events for deployed families, a Blue Star Museums event, and multiple Books on Bases opportunities. She has also worked to develop relationships with Starbucks and several community organizations.

We are so proud of Lana’s accomplishments. Congratulations, Lana, on being named our 2016 Salute to Distinction Quarter 3 award winner!
