hurricane-harvey

As emergency service crews and volunteers work tirelessly to pull individuals and families from the floodwaters, the rest of America is sending their thoughts and prayers to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The evacuations caused by Hurricane Harvey have prompted thousands of Texans to abandon their homes. Many left with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. And many will eventually return home to devastating conditions and losses far beyond what many of us could ever imagine.

In the midst of this tragedy, there are ways you can help. Whether you are located in Texas or live hundreds of miles away, you can provide a little bit of hope to those in need.

Donate money to the American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is working around the clock along the Gulf Coast to help the thousands of people whose lives have been devastated by Tropical Storm Harvey. Credit cards & PayPal donations are accepted at their website, but you can also text HARVEY to 90999 to donate $10. Every little bit helps.

Donate money to the local Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

After receiving an overwhelming number of inquiries from citizens and companies who want to help, Mayor Sylvester Turner has established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund that will accept tax deductible flood relief donations for victims that have been affected by the recent floods. The fund will be housed at the Greater Houston Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity.

Donate Blood

If you are within driving distance of the devastated areas, please consider donating blood. The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center is in need of more than 2,000 units of blood – especially O Positive and O Negative. Click here for a list of locations to donate.

Donate Food and/or Clothing

Feeding Texas is coordinating with local food banks to distribute food, cleaning supplies, medical items and baby items.

Donate Diapers

The Texas Diaper Bank is in desperate need of diaper donations. If you are not nearby, you can mail them to 5415 Bandera Road, Suite 504, San Antonio, Texas 78238. They will also be accepting drop-off donations at the same address.

Volunteer OR Help Send Volunteers

Samaritan’s Purse has sent two Disaster Relief units to Texas, and three more are on the way… but more is needed. Donations made online will assist in bringing more tractor trailers into the state, setting up volunteer bases around Victoria, Rockport/Portland, Galveston/Santa Fe and Houston. This organization is also in need of volunteers to join the Disaster Relief Units.
