#BlueStarStory: Overcoming Isolation

December 23, 2017

Meet Alicia, a Blue Star Spouse and her Blue Star Family.

Blue Star Spouse“I have been married for 10 years to my husband, who is an active duty Marine with 21 years of service. We have been stationed in isolated areas to include North Dakota and Okinawa, Japan, where I have found it challenging to start a career that was flexible and portable to meet my family’s needs and my own career goals. At a networking event, I connected with the Blue Star Families Careers Manager in San Diego and have since then benefited from many career resources and opportunities for professional growth. I have received an Human Resources Certification through the connections I made at Blue Star Families. To gain additional human resource experience, I also volunteer as a BSF Career Ambassador to support in program outreach to fellow military spouses, and networking engagement in the community. My goal is to be career ready by January. What I like about Blue Star Families is the opportunities to connect with community members and other military spouses — the interactions.  In all my years as an active duty military spouse, I never experienced as many opportunities to connect and grow professionally as I have recently. Thank you!”
