CSX Blue Star Communities: Connecting Military Families to their Neighbors
CSX and Blue Star Families launch a national initiative to bring civilian and military families together and in turn strengthen our nation as a whole.
Washington, D.C. (Nov. 9, 2018) –Blue Star Families is pleased to announce it has received a grant investment from CSX for the Jacksonville, Fla., Baltimore, Md., Huntington, W.V., Clarksville/Nashville, Tenn., Southwest Ohio, and Chicago, Ill., areas. Over the next two years, these funds will support the establishment, infrastructure, and evaluation of CSX Blue Star Communities to connect and engage military families and their civilian neighbors.
“Military families are isolated,” said Kathy Roth-Douquet, CEO of Blue Star Families. “Moving every two to three years, military families come to Blue Star Families to find their community wherever they move. A CSX team will be there to welcome them now.”
CSX’s investment will bring substantial positive impact to families of active duty and veteran service members from all branches of the military including National Guard and Reserves.
“These investments position CSX as a powerful advocate for and guardian of the wellbeing of the military family community,” said Chaitali Patel, Chief External Affairs Officer of Blue Star Families. “Partnering the generous spirit of CSX’s employees with the service and sacrifice of Blue Star Families members will allow for a truly innovative form of corporate citizenship to benefit all of us.”
The grant is part of CSX Pride in Service, CSX’s new corporate community investment program that works to support service men, women and families through several partnerships with not-for-profit organizations like Blue Star Families.
“CSX is proud to partner with Blue Star Families to expand their services in new communities, providing military families the resources and support they need,” said CSX President and CEO James M. Foote. “As one of the nation’s largest freight railroads, CSX works every day to serve the U.S. economy by delivering to our customers, and we are honored to extend our service commitment to those who serve their country.”
The grant is in response to a chief concern found in Blue Star Families’ 2017 Military Family Lifestyle Survey: 51 percent of respondents indicated they do not feel part of the civilian communities in which they live, and want more significant opportunities to connect with their community. Blue Star Families and CSX understand that when military families thrive, our country is stronger. Thus, CSX is committed to becoming a lead advocate for service member families in areas where they have an established footprint. Community development will begin immediately.
