How the Blue Star Families Jacksonville Chapter Launch Went Down

May 3, 2019

On April 30, we had quite a celebration on our hands. That’s because it was officially launch day of Blue Star Families’ new and improved Jacksonville Chapter, sponsored by CSX! This event was the first of several community collaborations between CSX and Blue Star Families, and it was, without a doubt, filled with lots of fun, food, and friendship.

So we figured we’d show you exactly how the day went down, as seen through the tweets of Blue Star Families and CSX.

The Collaboration

Listen in – this is pretty exciting! CSX is partnering with Blue Star Families as part of their CSX Pride in Service initiative, a national program to provide military and first responder communities with the resources and support they needwhen and where they need it.

Why? Because of our unique focus on establishing connections and building community support for military families, neighborhood by neighborhood. CSX realized they roll through these same neighborhoods BSF aims to help every day. So the partnership seemed like an obvious one!

The Why

Did you know about 230,000 military members call the Jacksonville area home? For that reason, there’s an unmet opportunity for Blue Star Families’ support services on the ground.

Though, we’re no stranger to the town of “Jax.” In fact, prior to partnering with CSX, our Jacksonville-based, volunteer-led group reached nearly 4,000 families through various programs and events.

Fast forward to today, thanks to our partnership, we’ve hired a full-time Chapter director, Wendy Layton, enabling organized, year-round programs that will reach more families and expand to civilian neighbors. How many more families to be exact? An estimated 2.5x the typical amount each year! Not to mention, 20 events per month.

The Neighbors

Throughout the year, CSX employees have committed to volunteering and engaging in Blue Star Families’ service projects to show their gratitude and empower the Jacksonville area’s service members and families with local resources and support. As a way to connect right away, 15 Blue Star Families were presented with new bikes built by none other than the CSX staff at the Jacksonville Chapter launch.

The Commitment

CSX Pride in Service is our company-wide commitment to honor and serve those who serve our country and our communitiesour nation’s veterans, active military, and first responders. And the support from their company will extend far beyond Jacksonville. How so? Well, we’re actually launching our next CSX Blue Star Family Communitiessimilar to Jacksonvillein Nashville, Baltimore,  and Chicago in 2019, with more to come in 2020.

What’s Next?

Immediately following the Jacksonville Chapter launch, Blue Star Families will be fielding the 2019 Military Family Lifestyle Survey and executing Blue Star Park and Museum activities in and around the area.
