When you hear of Motown legends, there should be one name that comes to mind:
Mary Wilson of The Supremes!
Mary Wilson, along with Diana Ross and Florence Ballard, was part of the hit group The Supremes—one of the most successful female groups in recording history. You probably know their top ballads, which include “Baby Love,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” and “Back in My Arms Again” to name a few.
Not to mention, Mary is a best-selling author, former U.S. Cultural Ambassador, motivational speaker, and continues to share her musical talents with the world.
And thanks to Blue Star Families’ partnership with the Blue Note Hawaii, an iconic music venue, I had the opportunity to experience her incredible performance live and in-person on Saturday, August 3, 2019.
In her show “Mary Wilson: Up Close,” she serenaded the audience with a beautiful selection of easy listening songs that kept the crowd reminiscing, dancing, and enjoying a lovely night in Honolulu. She lit up the room in her beautiful ball gowns, showing off all the sparkles while her marvelous voice took over as she sang all the best ballads—including those from Norah Jones, John Lennon, and, of course, The Supremes.
Best of all, Mary welcomed the audience to show off their dance moves on stage while she sang “Stop! In the Name of Love,” and had the whole crowd cheering for more. And in between songs, Mary showed off her very personable, witty, and fun self with the crowd while sharing bits and pieces of her career, travels, and talented band.
Her performance was bid goodnight with a standing ovation and shouting for an encore! It was definitely a great night out. Thank you Blue Note Hawaii for your relaxing and fantastic atmosphere, Mary Wilson for your out-of-this-world performance, and Blue Star Families for making this experience possible for military families like mine!
