Military families around the country have been taking full advantage of our Blue Star Parks program with the support of the National Park Trust—especially during the past few months of sweet, sweet summertime.
And to celebrate, we’ve been hosting a variety of meet-ups across the country (and beyond). Check out the ones that have happened so far, and stay tuned for part two of this behind-the-scenes series!
Location: Near Fort Bragg, North Carolina
Imagine a pool party with 100+ military family members in your community! Well, that’s exactly what happened here. Families in attendance weren’t shy about expressing their extreme gratitude for this event, which brought everyone together to play and create some special memories.
Location: Carrollton Nike Park near Norfolk, Virginia
Next up, we’re taking you to Isle of Wight in none other than Old Dominion! It’s where you’ll find Carrollton Nike Park. More than fifteen military family members came out to join us for some fun. Plus, they had the chance to launch kayaks out on the water and enjoy various activities developed by Blue Star Families.
Location: Near MacDill Air Force Base, Florida
After PCSing during the summer months, making a house a home and building community and friendships comes in at the top of the to-do list. This meet-up event genuinely offered military family members in attendance the opportunity to break the ice! Not to mention, nine milkids spoke up and shared their PCS experience—the difficult moments and the celebratory moments. Deployments and time spent apart from loved ones was also a topic of conversation. It was a great time to get to know one another and recognize we’re all in this journey together.
Location: Okinawa, Japan
We take advantage of every chance we have to show our OCONUS milfams some love! And we did just that for those in Okinawa, Japan, for this Blue Star Parks meet-up in particular.
Location: Hickam Beach in Hawaii
Nothing beats time spent at the beach. On the island of Oahu, local military families enjoyed a fun evening out with beach toys, bubbles, and take-home surprises for the kiddos. Oh, and we can’t forget about that incredible sunset!
Location: White Tank Mountain Regional Park in Maricopa County, Arizona
With nearly 30,000 acres to cover in the Sonoran Desert, this Blue Star Park served as the host for families to enjoy a cool summertime hike by moonlight. What a unique, yet refreshing experience this was!
