Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 15 will be the start of the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire’s Military Appreciation Summer, during which all current and retired military personnel and their immediate family members are invited to play at no cost. From this Saturday through Sunday, Sept. 5, guests can simply show a military ID at the front desk of the museum to receive free admission for the military member, dependent children and spouse.
The museum’s Military Appreciation Program is made possible by Service Credit Union and is part of the larger nationwide Blue Star Museum program. The Blue Star Museum program is a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense. More than 2,000 museums across America offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve and their families from Armed Forces Day through Labor Day. The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire, thanks to the support of its sponsor Service Credit Union, has extended this program to include retired as well as active military personnel and their family members.
“COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of families leading to feelings of isolation and learning-loss,” said Jane Bard, CMNH President. “We thank our sponsor for helping to bring the joy of learning and play to military families throughout the region this year. Service Credit Union has a long-standing record of honoring military families, and their commitment will allow us to extend half-price admission to families for the remainder of 2021 after the Blue Star Museum program ends.”
“At Service Credit Union, part of our mission is to support the communities we serve and we want all children to have the opportunity to experience the rich educational content of the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire,” said Wendy Beswick, Service Credit Union’s VP of Marketing. “We are proud to partner with CMNH to help them continue their military appreciation programming.”
The summer free admission program is available to active duty and retired U.S. military – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps – and up to five family members. The museum’s military appreciation program extends through the rest of the year, offering half-off admission for active and retired military personnel and their family members, again thanks to sponsorship support provided by Service Credit Union, as well as People’s United Bank.
The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire’s current hours are Wednesdays and Sundays, 9 to 11:30 a.m.; and Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 9 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 to 3:30 p.m. Masks are required for everyone over the age of 24 months, and online reservations prior to visiting are also required.
