New initiative empowers Americans to take simple, meaningful action for military families in their own communities
[Washington] — Blue Star Families, the nation’s largest nonprofit serving military and veteran families, launched Do Your Part: Everyday Americans, the latest initiative as part of its Do Your Part Movement.
This initiative is designed to help Americans who have never served in the military and who may not see themselves as connected to military life better understand the unique challenges military families face and discover meaningful ways to make a real impact.
Today, only 1% of Americans currently serve in the military, leaving many civilian neighbors disconnected from the realities of military life. Through Do Your Part: Everyday Americans, Blue Star Families is helping bridge that gap by turning support into action.
“We believe that supporting military families is everyone’s responsibility. What we’re asking is simple — for everyday Americans to do your part. You don’t have to serve to support,” said Kathy Roth-Douquet, CEO of Blue Star Families. “This initiative highlights how important every gesture is, whether big or small, and how easy it can be to make a large impact.”
An Everyday American is someone who has never served in the military and does not consider themselves part of a blue star family. A blue star family is the family of a currently serving military member, including active duty, National Guard, Reserve forces, and those transitioning out of service.
Do Your Part: Everyday Americans encourages Americans to take action in ways both large and small. From welcoming new military neighbors with a sweet treat, to volunteering time and talents, to giving to support programs, everyone can do their part.
