This Friday, the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes and Blue Star Families will team up to distribute a week’s worth of packaged food, fresh produce, personal care items and other resources to 400 local veterans and their families.

The Wave & Welcome event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Valor Hall Conference & Event Center, 105 Walter Garrett Lane in Oak Grove.

According to the news release, veterans and their families serving at Fort Campbell can stop by and receive a box containing roughly one week’s worth of food and household items, as well as lunch of hot dogs, burgers, chips and bottled waters and a bag filled with resources.

Attendees will be instructed to pull into the Valor Hall parking lot, check in and find a parking spot, leaving one empty space between each car.

Singer/songwriter Cassidy Daniels will be playing throughout the event, allowing families to sit in their cars and enjoy the entertainment while eating lunch. Participants will be asked to remain in their cars due to social distancing guidelines.

“We’re proud to team up with Blue Star Families, Feed The Children and other outstanding organizations to serve and thank the men, women and children of Fort Campbell,” said Sgt. Mary Herrera (USA Retired), national spokesman for the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes. “In the time of COVID-19 and the economic crisis it has unleashed, we know that many military families are struggling to make ends meet. We hope that Friday’s event provides some well-earned relief and enjoyment.”

According to the release, Friday’s event is part of Blue Star Families’ inaugural Welcome Week, a nationwide effort to help military families get connected with local community partners to feel a greater sense of belonging.
