JOB SUMMARY: This position is located within the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Air Station Jacksonville Florida. Director will be responsible for the day to day management of the community recreation program, outreach and rentals/equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES: Seeking a dynamic leader to manage and administer a comprehensive and diverse year round activity platform. Will plan promote and implement activities that will positively impact NAS Jacksonville’s target audience. Incumbent will be responsible for seeking partnerships with community organizations and businesses both on and off base, in support of the Community Recreation Program. Ensures programs are in compliance with local, regional and/or CNIC policies, procedures, regulations, standards, and/or instructions. Develops and writes standard operating procedures for activities and programs. Continually evaluates activities for success and revises and implements new programs to ensure delivery excellence. Responsible for developing the annual budget and managing financial performance. Responsible for supervising community recreation staff including hiring, firing, evaluating, and scheduling for program efficiency and effectiveness. Represents the department at meetings, conferences, etc. Cultivates a cooperative relationship with the military, regional and civilian community.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Four year degree in recreation preferred or comparable experience in a community recreation program that demonstrates an operational understanding of program/activity/event promotions. Must have working knowledge of general business principles for financial planning/reporting for APF/NAF funds to ensure optimum use of resources available. Ability to plan, present and execute budgets. Must possess skill in negotiating program issues and operational requirements with patron and personnel inside and outside the local installation and community organization. Ability to develop, explain, justify, persuade and deal with a wide range of problems and with people of diverse backgrounds. Must possess or be able to obtain first aid and CPR certifications within the first 60 days of employment. Must be able to obtain a Safe Inflatable Operators Training Organization (SIOTO) certification. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. NOTE: Some positions have special requirements.
