The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Purchasing Specialist is responsible for organizational purchasing duties, daily processing of purchasing activities related to inventory, office supplies, marketing and promotional materials, IT equipment, vendor services, employee apparel items, and other items as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively across WWP to ensure internal customer service needs are met while helping to instill a culture of discipline for all involved in the process
  • Assure the organization’s purchasing is completed through use of formal and controlled processes in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Assure that receiving, inventory, and shipping procedures reflect both sound financial practices and meet the needs of WWP
  • Work with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule
  • Determine method of procurement, such as direct purchase or bid
  • Prepare purchase orders, bid requests, and RFP’s
  • Review bid proposals, RFP’s, and negotiate contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority
  • Regularly review inventory levels to determine when stock is low, and work with Inventory Coordinator to perform purchasing activities to bring inventory to established minimum/maximum storage levels
  • Assist other purchasing teammates during high volume periods
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business or related field
  • Five (5) years of experience in purchasing/buying in a corporate environment with extensive knowledge of purchasing and inventory processes is required
  • Familiarity with Great Plains accounting and inventory tracking software is a plus
