Monthly Chapter Newsletter

Want to know what the Craig Newmark Blue Star Families of New York Tri-State Chapter is up to this month? Read our newsletter, and you'll find out how we're getting members connected in the community!

From fishing with the National Park Service to hiking with Another Summit, we’re making the most of this weather. Our Chapter members and their families have also been doing their part to help the environment by participating in beach cleanups on the third Friday of every month! Thank you to everyone who makes these events such a success.

Speaking of beaches, my family’s favorite is Sea Girt Beach in New Jersey. The sand is warm, the water is blue, and dolphins are usually spotted. Send me a note with the name of your favorite beach. I’ll spotlight it on our Facebook page so others can enjoy it, too!

A Note of Thanks

I’d like to give a special shoutout to Ranger Kathy with the National Park Service and Gateway National Recreation Area. Ranger Kathy and her colleagues have been invaluable resources and amazing collaborators, helping us plan outstanding outdoor events for our members. She’s always willing to go the extra mile to show our families all the outdoors has to offer!

Chapter Highlight

It’s been six months since our Nourish the Service food/essentials closet opened in Staten Island. To date, we’ve served 718 families consisting of 2,528 family members. This would not be possible without the dedication and help of our volunteers. From unloading groceries to restocking the pantry, we couldn’t do it without you.

Looking Ahead

We’re gearing up for Blue Star Welcome Week 2022 to welcome new military families to the area. The moving trucks are pulling up, new kids are in the neighborhood, and new faces are out and about. Now is the time to rally the welcoming “committee!” Introduce yourself, and don't forget to tell them to become a member of Blue Star Families. This is the best way for military members to take advantage of the great programs and events we’re offering in their new backyard.

Wherever the rest of your summer takes you, keep an eye on our Facebook page for the latest news and updates. If you find an activity or outing you enjoy, let us know!

Until next time,

Andie Coakley
