The DEPLOY Fellow Program

Diversify and Expand the Pipeline of Leaders OYour Military Communities

The leadership teams of the organizations who serve military families of color —Military Support Organizations (MSOs) and Veteran Support Organizations (VSOs) —are disproportionately white. As an initial step in combating this inequity, Blue Star Families has launched the DEPLOY Fellowship program (Diversify and Expand the Pipeline Of Leaders for Your military community). This program seeks to train a new cohort of racially diverse leaders for MSOs and VSOs. These leaders will serve (be deployed) for one year in chapter-based or national roles at Blue Star Families while they receive training in MSO/VSO leadership curated by several of our key partners.

They will focus their fellowship work on bringing awareness to issues military families encounter regarding racial equity and inclusion through community engagement and partnerships and improving the experiences and increasing the representation of military families of color in community settings across the country through outreach work and programming initiatives, while supporting the wider work and programming of the department in which they are embedded. Upon graduating the program Fellows will continue their work in positions of leadership within the MSO/VSO space.
