Salt Lake City Chapter Director
Army Spouse (ret)
While seeing the great need for relevant and reliable information and resources for military families as a volunteer in her husband’s unit Family Readiness Group (FRG); Emily turned her passion for family readiness into a career supporting military families for the last 17 years.
After volunteering for several years in FRGs, Army Family Action Plan, and Army Community Service, Emily went on to serve as a Family Readiness Liaison and then Family Readiness Support Assistant (FRSA) for the active duty Army at various levels of command from company all the way up to division level from 2005 to 2014. She then migrated careers to Healthcare Administration but did not find the work as rewarding as working with Soldiers and families. In 2017 she returned to family readiness as a FRSA once again for the Army Reserve. In her time as a FRSA, she was lucky to be able to serve over 10,000 Soldiers and over 20,000 family members. Her professional experience also includes work as a journalist, photojournalist, editor-in-chief, graphic and layout designer, and social media marketer. Emily has certifications in Digital Photography and Social Media Marketing.
Emily has been married for 17 years to her husband James, who is now retired from the Army after 22 years of service. They have settled down in the greater Salt Lake City area to be close to family for the first time in their marriage. They have three children, Connor, Delaney, and Declan. In her free time Emily likes to throw heavy things for fun and fitness, competing in Scottish Heavy Athletics, otherwise known as traditional Scottish Highland Games. Emily’s favorite Blue Star Families Program is Blue Star Parks because it allows families to get out and experience nature cost-free.
