Bio

Hisako Sonethavilay is the Senior Advisor of Applied Research. Hisako joined BSF in August 2014 and leads key BSF research projects including Blue Star Families’ annual Military Family Lifestyle Survey and national policy initiatives. Hisako’s interest in this field stems from her desire to create social change for military families including her own. Hisako holds a Masters of Social Work (MSW) from George Mason University and an active License in Social Work (LSW) from the state of Virginia.

Prior to joining BSF, Hisako practiced family-focused community social work, published research during her time at George Mason University, and volunteered for a number of military family organizations with a focus on financial services and community advocacy. Hisako currently resides in San Diego, CA with her Marine Corps husband and son.
