Julie Riggs
Executive Director, Sheila and George Casey National Capital Region Chapter
Julie Riggs is the Executive Director, Sheila and George Casey National Capital Region Chapter for Blue Star Families. She brings to the position over 12 years of experience working with military, veterans, and families in the nonprofit sector. Julie has a long history of working for organizations that advocate for military-connected families including, the USO, the National Military Family Association, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and ServingTogether.
Julie has a proven track record of capacity building in communities through partnerships and collaborations. She is passionate about the work she does and is dedicated to identifying solutions that will impact the important issues facing our military and veterans. Julie serves on numerous boards and is dedicated to straightening our nation’s military-connected communities.
Julie has Navy in her blood. She is the daughter of a retired Naval Senior Chief Petty Officer and the wife of an active duty Naval Chief Petty Officer. Although she was born and raised in CA, Julie has fallen in love with the DC Area and plans to make it her home for the foreseeable future. Julie and her husband Kurt have amazing twelve-year-old twin girls and a curmudgeonly bulldog named Hank. Julie holds a BA in English from San Jose State University in California.
