Kim Hunt joined Blue Star Families in 2019 as a consultant to support the Military Family Lifestyle Survey and transitioned to BSF staff as Senior Research Manager in 2020. Her work with Blue Star Families focuses on the Military Family Lifestyle Survey and Applied Research projects with an emphasis on military children’s education as well as support for other research projects and evaluations.
Kim has been active in education and the nonprofit sector for over 30 years. She has completed multiple research and evaluation projects for military and veteran service organizations and has served on the Coordinating Council for the San Diego Military Family Collaborative. Together with her husband, a retired Navy officer, and their two daughters, Kim moved 16 times throughout the US and Europe, has taught at all age levels and run reading programs at a variety of public, private and DoDEA schools. These experiences prompted her interest in researching the education experiences of military children which eventually led to her dissertation on the resilience of highly mobile military children.
Kim earned a PhD from the University of San Diego in Leadership Studies with a dual focus on Nonprofit and Education Leadership, a MA in Education with a focus on Curriculum Development from University of Phoenix, and a BS in Economics with a concentration in Developing Nations from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
