Leslie Voels joins the Blue Star Families Development team as the Development Fellow. Leslie was born and raised in rural Indiana with her parents and four older brothers. It was through her church involvement and participation in ballet and theatre that Leslie developed her passion for nonprofits and the performing arts.
Leslie attended Indiana University where she completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Arts Management and a Nonprofit Management minor from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Following graduation, she moved to Seattle, WA where she worked in development for several arts organizations, including ACT – A Contemporary Theatre and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Leslie’s development experience has been primarily focused on individual donors, providing her with experience in direct mail solicitations, special events, and donor benefits.
Leslie is relatively new to military life and experienced her first PCS move at the end of May 2018 with her fiance James who is an Army E6. It was during that transition that she sought resourced for military spouses and discovered BSF. Although it was the performing arts that originally drew Leslie to nonprofit development, it is the mission driven work of nonprofits that has kept her in the industry. Leslie is excited to be part of an organization that is directly impacting the lives of military families.
