Jacksonville Regional Director
Vicky Perkins is the Regional Director for Blue Star Families in Jacksonville, Florida.
Vicky began volunteering with Blue Star Families 2 years ago when her husband, Lieutenant Commander, J. Christopher “Chris” Perkins was stationed in Quantico, Virginia. In 2015, she moved to Florida where she was given the opportunity to serve as the Chapter Director in Jacksonville.
Vicky holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree for Education from Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore, Maryland. Vicky taught third grade for two years at William Tyler Page Elementary School in Montgomery County, Maryland. In 2003, Vicky married Chris following his graduation from Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida, beginning their journey as a Naval Aviator family. Vicky and Chris have moved 8 times in 13 years of marriage from Florida, Texas, Washington State, and Virginia. They have endured a total of four deployments and many debts to support efforts overseas.
Vicky has been able to volunteer in many different areas while moving and living all over the country. She began volunteering when her children were young as the Children’s Social Chair of her OSC Committee in Washington. That quickly led to volunteering in each of her children’s classrooms in all different types of capacities. While stationed in Virginia Beach, Vicky was also able to be part of the Seashell Circle which is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters as a volunteer and as a co-leader of the group. Through fundraisers and events with the Seashell Circle, Vicky and her group were able to raise an upwards of $15,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Kings Daughter in Norfolk, Virginia. Vicky counts this as one of her most rewarding experiences.
When Blue Star Families offered Vicky the opportunity to be involved in impacting military families lives, something she was very familiar with, she was thrilled to accept. Vicky’s favorite Blue Star Families Program is Books on Bases. The opportunity to go in to military impacted schools and encourage literacy among students whether it be just talking with them, reading a book, completing a craft, or giving them a goody bag with their very own free book is so rewarding! Attending events and seeing the smiling faces of military children when she tells them they can pick a book for free fuel Vicky’s passion for the program! Vicky loves every second of supporting military families in Jacksonville and across the country!
