Laura Schmiegel is Lead Associate in Community Partnerships at Booz Allen Hamilton. Among other duties, Laura manages all of the firm’s philanthropy and employee engagement efforts for military and veterans’ nonprofits.
Prior to working at Booz Allen Hamilton, Ms. Schmiegel worked for 7 years in the development and management of military family nonprofits; she was a founding member of Blue Star Families and served as Chairman of the Board for two terms in 2011 and 2012. Ms. Schmiegel developed and directed the military spouse program at the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes from 2011-2014. To date the program has served over 10,000 spouses and effectively partnered with every branch of the Department of Defense to bring military spouse hiring and networking events to installations across the country. Ms. Schmiegel also served as Regional Director and director of national partnerships for The Mission Continues, a nonprofit that creates continuing service and leadership opportunities for transitioning veterans.
Ms. Schmiegel has served as a writer and advisor on military family issues, particularly military spouse employment, to nonprofits, political campaigns and businesses. She has been published in the Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, on Politico and the Huffington Post and in the US Chamber’s BHQ Quarterly magazine. She currently lives in Arlington with husband Kevin Schmiegel, President of ThanksUSA, and her two proud military children Jack, 12, and Mary Frances, 8.
