Blue Star Welcome Programs for Military and Veteran Family Life

Blue Star Welcome Programs foster and create vibrant communities of support by welcoming your family into the organization, and providing opportunities for all members to connect with each other and their civilian neighbors.

We designed these programs to meet the unique needs of your family and deliver the resources you need to feel supported—no matter where you are on your journey.

Blue Star Summer

Blue Star Summer was created for your family to pursue new adventures and broaden your horizons through educational and fun activities during summer break. These programs encourage kids to use their imagination, connect with other families, and explore the world around them — whether from the comfort of home, traveling, or even during a military move.

Blue Star Museums

This program is a collaboration among Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Department of Defense, and museums across America to offer free admission from Memorial Day to Labor Day for the nation’s active-duty military personnel, including the National Guard and Reserve, and their families.

Blue Star Parks

Since 2017, Blue Star Parks provides active-duty, Veteran, and Gold Star families with free access to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, including national parks, wildlife refuges, and forests with the America the Beautiful park pass. You can also download the free ParkPassport app to explore, discover, and connect with one another while visiting the great outdoors.

Blue Star Books

With the help of partners like Disney, Blue Star Families has given hundreds of thousands of books away to more than 560,000 military kids across the world since 2009. We also offer both family-friendly and adults-only book club programs through START: Serving, Thriving, and Reading Together, which is designed to bridge the gap between military families and their civilian communities.

Blue Star Volunteers

Since 2009, we have relied on the efforts of dedicated volunteers to achieve our mission of empowering our military and Veteran families to thrive through strong communities of support. Blue Star Volunteers assist with events, outreach, and more, contributing their time both in-person and virtually.

Blue Star Caregivers

Whether you care for a spouse, parent, child, or friend, your sacrifices and contributions should not go unnoticed. This program aims to empower caregivers, providing you with the tools and resources needed to thrive—from social events to online support groups, and opportunities for communities to engage with you.

Blue Star Welcome Week

Although our Welcome Programs exist to bring your family and community together year-round, Blue Star Welcome Week started in 2020 as a week-long initiative within neighborhoods across the U.S. Ease your transition and create a greater sense of belonging to feel at home.
