By now, we’re sure you’ve heard the news about our #HomeHaircutChallenge, right?
But, maybe you’re asking why? Why did we create such a thing?
And the answer is pretty simple.
The fight against COVID-19 has impacted our MilFams in a big way. So, we wanted to raise awareness and support via the #HomeHaircutChallenge, while bringing the nation together VIRTUALLY to brighten spirits as we wade through unchartered territory, together.
Most importantly, the proceeds from this virtual fundraiser allow us to continue to create the programs and expertise needed to empower military families during this time.
Have you taken on the challenge? If you need a little nudge, you’ve come to the right place.
See how the #HomeHaircutChallenge went for some Blue Star Families supporters:
This is actually via @BlueStarFamily and the #HomeHaircutChallenge in support of our military & their families for their frontline support during COVID-19. Herein the Mrs Newmark removes much of what remains of my hair.

Decided to take a shot at the #homehaircutchallenge to support @BlueStarFamily – the dough we saved by mowing my head lawn is heading their way (with some extra) as a donation! pic.twitter.com/zeaOyt7D9o

Ok @BlueStarKRD you convinced me to to do the #homehaircutchallenge in support of the brave military men and women serving on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis. The money I save on haircuts will go to @BlueStarFamily to support #militaryfamilies Thanks to Kayla the barber. pic.twitter.com/04PEvhz3gR

So I cut my husband’s hair. He said it’s the shortest it’s been since the 82nd Airborne but secretly I think he loves it 😂 And now I challenge *you* to the @BlueStarFamily #HomeHaircutChallenge! Donating what we saved to honor military folks/fams on the frontline of this crisis. pic.twitter.com/sHIux2iWVK

We think each of them #NailedIt!
Want to join the fun? Participate on #GivingTuesdayNow (May 5th!):
The #HomeHaircutChallenge is a fun and easy way to be a part of Giving Tuesday Now on May 5th—a global day of giving and unity in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
All you have to do is the following:
- Perform a home haircut on yourself or someone else.
- If your circumstances allow, donate the money you saved by doing it yourself here.
- Share a photo or video of your efforts on social media and tag @BlueStarFamilies along with the hashtag #HomeHaircutChallenge. (Be sure to include whether you #NailedIt or #FailedIt.) Then, challenge a friend or family member to keep the movement going!
Your support of our military families doesn’t go unnoticed!
It’s our mission to be a voice for – and provide frontline resources to – America’s service members and their families year-round, especially during the fluid COVID-19 crisis.
And we couldn’t do this critical work without your support. So, can we count on you to join the #HomeHaircutChallenge? Show us!
As soon as you do, know that you’re allowing us the chance to continue to create the resources needed to empower our military families during this time, as well as provide them with exclusive access to free events – all from the comfort of their home. THANK YOU!
