Blue Star Families’ CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet Receives Ellis Island Medal of Honor

NEW YORK, NY, May 13, 2023Blue Star Families (BSF), a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting military families and strengthening communities, is thrilled to announce Kathy Roth-Douquet, BSF CEO and Founder, as a 2023 recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. The medal, presented by the Ellis Island Honor Society (EIHS), celebrates inspiring Americans who are selflessly working for the betterment of our country and its citizens.

“As the grandchild of four immigrants who passed through Ellis Island a century ago fleeing persecution in Europe with nothing, I am incredibly honored to accept the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, ” said Roth-Douquet. “I know what a great country this is – it gave my family everything – and I know it’s worth fighting for; that’s the very thing that ignites my advocacy for our military communities. I’m proud to accept this prestigious award and continue to work on behalf of military and Veteran families.” 

The Ellis Island Medals of Honor have been presented since 1986 and is one of the nation’s most prestigious awards. The medals are awarded to commemorate the indefatigable spirit of those who immigrated to the United States during the Ellis Island era. Each year its recipients are read into the Congressional Record. 

Past honorees include President Joe Biden, in addition to seven other past Presidents of the United States, Apple CEO John Sculley, Google Chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt, Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, Nobel Prize laureates Elie Wiesel and Malala Yousufzai, Sen. John McCain and Muhammad Ali.
