Blue Star Families Welcomes Ellyn Dunford to Board of Directors

Washington, D.C. — Blue Star Families (BSF) is pleased to announce that Ellyn Dunford has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the national nonprofit. Ms. Dunford is the spouse of General Joseph Dunford Jr., USMC (Ret.), former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Previously, Ms. Dunford has served as the honorary co-chair for Blue Star Welcome Week, as well as serving on the National Advisory Board and New England Advisory Board for Blue Star Families. She is also the recipient of the 2022 Blue Star Families Lifetime Achievement Award for consistently making a difference in the lives of military families – decade after decade.

“It’s leaders such as Ellyn that allow Blue Star Families and our partners to succeed in our collective mission to serve military families. She is a champion and advocate for this community, working to ensure that service members and their families feel supported. We are grateful to have her serving on our Board of Directors to help guide our organization and help military families feel a sense of belonging, wherever they may go,” says BSF CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet.

“As a community, the easiest thing that we can do is to help make connections, … we hope that Blue Star Families programming helps military families feel welcomed and included in their communities, wherever the military may take them. I am honored to be able to continue serving military families in this capacity and look forward to continuing the good work that Blue Star Families has been doing,” says Mrs. Dunford.

Along with all of her dedication to BSF, Ms. Dunford has served as a Navy-Marine Relief Corps volunteer, honorary board member of Easterseals, USO liaison, and worked as a dedicated physical therapist for 30 years. She raised three children, navigated frequent moves and deployments, all while continuing to serve the military community.
