Blue Star Families Gathers to Support Senate Rules Committee’s Consideration of Resolution to Approve Military Nominations

Washington, DC – On Tuesday, November 14, at 3:00 PM EST, Blue Star Families, the largest national non-profit dedicated to supporting military families and strengthening communities, will convene at Russell Senate Office Building in Room 301.

The Senate Rules Committee will consider a resolution to allow the Senate to approve military nominations for the remainder of this Congress. Sen. Tuberville’s promotion block is having a lasting adverse effect on military families. Fifty-seven percent of currently-serving respondents to the Blue Star Families’ September Pulse Check said that the promotion block decreases their satisfaction with military life, and 48% say that it decreases their likelihood to continue military service, impacting retention. These persistent and egregious lifestyle challenges and a lack of trust in civilian leadership undermine their willingness to recommend it to others.

Blue Star Families will attend the meeting tomorrow as a strong show of support for the proposed resolution and efforts to act on military nominations.  “The monthslong block of more than 452 military appointments not only robs the military of valuable talent, but it weakens our nation’s defenses,” said Kathy Roth-Douquet, co-founder and CEO of Blue Star Families. “We support any effort to act immediately and give the necessary relief and certainty to our military and their families.”
