Food insecurity is a growing challenge for military families. In our 2024 Military Family Lifestyle Survey, 1 in 6 active-duty families reported facing food insecurity. After hearing of these challenges, Chobani stepped up to do its part by powering the Blue Star Families Nourish the Service program that addresses food and economic insecurity across the military community.
Hamdi Ulukaya, a Turkish immigrant, founded Chobani in 2005 and transformed the U.S. dairy aisle by bringing thick, creamy Greek yogurt to the mainstream. From the beginning, Chobani has defined itself as more than a food company. The brand supports communities, hires refugees, drives sustainability, and invests in philanthropy, making “doing good” as central to its mission as yogurt.
In 2021, Blue Star Families launched Nourish the Service to combat food insecurity among military families by ensuring consistent access to nutritious food and pantry staples. In partnership with trusted brands and community organizations, we make it easier to show up for those who serve and sacrifice. Through our 13 Blue Star Families Chapters and more than 18 Blue Star Families Outposts (and more coming soon!) nationwide, we’ve set a goal with Chobani of distributing 500,000 pounds of nutritious food across 15 military installations and communities, serving 33,000+ members of the military community. Chobani is also proud to support the Blue Star Families Essentials Food Market at Fort Wadsworth, New York, operated by the New York Tri-State Chapter, the market offers fresh, nutrient-dense food to 300 active and veteran Coast Guard families every month.
By joining forces with Blue Star Families, Chobani is doing its part to help us fight hunger in military households and ensure no family has to choose between service and stability. More organizations are hearing the call to serve and do their part for our military families, and we hope your organization will join us! Join the movement and let’s show military families how supported they are in every community.
