Bandon artist Susan Dimock exhibiting at Coos Art Museum

Rocks, Vines and Lines in the Sand, an exhibition of photography and sculptural works by Susan Dimock, will be on display at Coos Art Museum. Dimock an artist from Bandon, Oregon is exhibiting in the Mabel Hansen Gallery at the Museum July 17 through October 2, 2021.

Susan Dimock is a social worker and psychotherapist turned nature photographer based in Bandon, Oregon. She specializes in both birds and oceanscapes, large and small. Susan has done extensive tourism and contract work and her images have been utilized throughout the nation in print and in online publications.

Regarding seven years work on the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge project Dimock said, “My initial goal was simply to learn how to photograph the Oregon coastline and its wildlife. However, during the process of countless days of walking the beaches with my camera, something more occurred within me. I gained a heightened awareness that this sublime landscape is home to many creatures and that it is a dynamic, complex ecosystem. In tandem with this, came the knowledge that it had become a profound refuge for me as well.”

A free public opening reception for Rocks, Vines and Lines in the Sand will take place Friday July 23 from 5 to 7 pm at the same time as a reception for an exhibition by Ashland, Oregon painter Claire Duncan titled Reflections on the Human Epoch.

Reflections on the Human Epoch, an exhibition of paintings by Claire Duncan, will be on display at Coos Art Museum. Duncan an artist from Ashland, Oregon is exhibiting in the Richter Atrium Gallery at the Museum July 17 through October 2, 2021.

A free public opening reception for Reflections on the Human Epoch will take place Friday July 23 from 5 to 7 pm at the same time as a reception for an exhibition by Bandon photographer Susan Dimock titled Rocks, Vines and Lines in the Sand.

In a series of 18 multi-panel paintings Claire Duncan confronts the paradox of wildlife and natural beauty in a man-altered world. The exhibition is augmented by the poetry of Pepper Trail, a poet and naturalist based in Ashland, Oregon

Duncan’s work has won numerous awards including First, Second, and Third place awards in Coos Art Museum’s Expressions West competition and First place in The Artist’s Magazine’s All Media Competition (wildlife). A video segment on her work has appeared on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Oregon Art Beat and on PBS Newshour’s CANVAS website.

Black Market Gourmet to Cater Maritime Dinner at Coos Art Museum

On Saturday, July 17, Coos Art Museum launches its 27th Maritime Art Exhibition with a dinner and auction fundraiser. This exciting evening will begin at 5 pm with a social hour. Preview silent auction items and enjoy a refreshment of punch or wine before dinner. The Maritime Dinner has become a favorite area tradition and is the savory highlight of the evening. Dinner is catered by Black Market Gourmet of Coos Bay.

Chef Jardin Kazaar of Black Market Gourmet will be offering the following for the annual Maritime Buffet Dinner Celebration at Coos Art Museum: Entrees of grilled Oregon albacore tuna and locally sourced oven roasted grass-fed brisket of beef, roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetable(s) (organic and locally sourced), organic green salad with assorted house made salad dressings, rustic bread with butter, and chef’s choice dessert. A Vegan entree is also available when ordered in advance

Artworks in the silent auction include just completed en plein air paintings by the participating 27th Maritime Art Exhibition artists. Proceeds from this fundraising event go to support Museum operations.

Reservations are recommended. Tickets for the dinner and auction are $50 for museum members and $55 for non-members. Coos Art Museum receives $15,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation

The Coos Art Museum is the recipient of a $15,000 grant from the Summer Learnings Program of Oregon Community Foundation to provide youth arts education during the summer of 2021. Activities will included the museum’s Art Cart in the Park events at various sites in Coos County.

Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) puts donated money to work in Oregon – more than $100 million in grants and scholarships support Oregonians annually. For nearly 45 years, OCF grantmaking, research, advocacy and community-advised solutions have helped individuals, families, businesses and organizations create charitable funds to improve lives for all Oregonians.

Coos Art Museum will offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer

Coos Art Museum announced it will join museums nationwide in the Blue Star Museums initiative, a program that provides free admission to currently-serving U.S. military personnel and their families this summer. The 2021 program will begin on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 15, 2021, and end on Labor Day, Monday, September 6, 2021.

The free admission program is available for those currently serving in the United States Military—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard as well as members of the Reserves, National Guard, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and up to five family members.

Blue Star Museums is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and participating museums nationwide. Blue Star Museums include children’s museums, art, science, and history museums, zoos, gardens, lighthouses, and more, and hail from all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
