Since 2013, Blue Star Families members have enjoyed the excitement of NASCAR events across the country — thanks to generous community partners who shared access to tickets. But until now, Blue Star Families hadn’t had the opportunity to collaborate directly with NASCAR. This collaboration isn’t just about giving away tickets; it’s about creating fun and fulfilling experiences for the families who sacrifice alongside those who serve.
More Than Just a Ticket to the Race
For military families, opportunities like this go far beyond the thrill of the event. They offer a rare moment to slow down, reconnect, and feel part of something bigger. Life in the military comes with frequent moves, long separations, and unpredictable schedules — making consistent community connections hard to come by.
That’s why events like this matter so much. They help families feel seen, valued, and welcomed.
Building a Community of Belonging
Life in the military can be erratic in the best of times, with frequent PCS moves, deployments and separations, and unstructured schedules. According to the 2022 Military Family Lifestyle Survey, just 33% of active-duty family respondents agree they feel a sense of belonging to their local civilian community. NASCAR and Blue Star Families, along with many other organizations, are working to improve that number.
This month, NASCAR welcomed 200 military family members in Chicago to take part in the pre-race ceremony by holding the American flag during the national anthem—an unforgettable honor. Afterward, families stayed to experience the Chicago Street Race in person, soaking in the energy, excitement, and community spirit of the event. Moments like these provide a break from everyday challenges and create lasting memories that reinforce a sense of community and appreciation.
Beyond Race Day
NASCAR’s support doesn’t end when the checkered flag waves. The organization continues to amplify the mission of Blue Star Families throughout the year, raising awareness around key issues that impact military households — like mental health, education, and spouse employment.
By using its platform to uplift the voices of military families, NASCAR is helping create lasting change well beyond the grandstands.
A Challenge to Other Organizations
NASCAR’s example proves that when businesses put purpose into action, real impact follows. The formula isn’t complicated. Open your doors, offer what you have, and partner with organizations that already know how to make a difference.
Every company, brand, or nonprofit has something valuable to contribute. Whether it’s event access, volunteer time, or resources, there are countless ways to support the families who serve alongside our nation’s heroes.
Join the Movement
NASCAR continues to lead with heart, showing that honoring military families can be woven into any organization’s culture and mission. These moments of connection, gratitude, and joy are more than just good intentions — they’re life-changing for the families who experience them.
The opportunity is wide open. Now it’s time for others to follow suit.
The green flag is waving. Let’s do our part for military families together!
