Kenneth Cohen is Chair of the Division of Military & Society and Curator of Early American History at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. He leads a dynamic team that collects, preserves, and interprets the history of military service, including the experiences of military families, through engaging exhibitions, programs, and online content.

His public practice focuses on community archiving and empowerment, working with families to preserve and share their own stories for future generations. In addition, as an expert in the Revolutionary Era and the early years of the United States, his award-winning writing and museum work has reached millions of people through a wide range of media outlets and formats.

Ken holds a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Delaware, an M.A. from the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture, and a B.A. in History and Communications from Allegheny College.
