Welcome to Blue Star Families of the Baltimore and the Chesapeake Region!
I am Yolanda T. Rayford, your Chapter Director of the Baltimore and Chesapeake Region. As the spouse of an Air Force Veteran, I have held many roles as a global community volunteer for Girl Scouts USA, Red Cross, and Military Family Centers. The ability to provide the military and Veteran population with support across the board — from relocating to a new area, finding a job, transitioning from the military, engaging as a volunteer, expanding upon life skills, addressing resource needs, and managing financials — has allowed me to educate and empower.
Educating and empowering is what I look forward to continuing to do here in my happy place at Blue Star Families. Given that Maryland is my home state (I returned to the area in 2008), I aim to ensure your family’s success here by delivering meaningful programming and developing rapport and relationships with neighbors and supporters as we work to build upon our efforts to cultivate a welcoming community for all military and Veteran families.
My life’s mission is to help people, and with that, I believe in the saying, “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” I am excited to have the opportunity to do what I love alongside you — educating, empowering, and inspiring you, your fellow military and Veteran families, and champions for change. It is true when I say I have never met a stranger, so I look forward to meeting and connecting with YOU either in person or virtually at one of our many upcoming events.
Until then, send me an email and let me know what I can do for you.
All the best,

Blue Star Welcome Week
From September 24 to October 2, 2022, communities across the U.S. will welcome military and Veteran families who are new to the neighborhood.
STARBUCKS: More than a Cup of Coffee
Together with Starbucks, we are committed to strengthening military and Veteran families and connecting Americans to those who serve through opportunities like regular Coffee Connects for military spouses, welcome to the community events, and Yellow Ribbon Trees.
Campaign for Inclusion
All Blue Star Families programming is informed by our research. For this reason, research and advocacy is a key pillar of our Campaign for Inclusion. While all Blue Star Families research in the future will continue to look at data through a racial equity and inclusion lens, our groundbreaking study: The Diverse Experiences of Military and Veteran Families of Color provides unparalleled insight into how military families experience military life.
