Honoring Service Members at Starbucks this Holiday Season

Published: December 19, 2020

2020 has been quite the year. While we all knew the holidays would likely look different this year, one thing hasn’t changed: Many military families are once again spending the holidays without their service members.

As a way to honor these service members and their families, for the fifth year in a row, we are proud to partner with Starbucks to bring Yellow Ribbon Trees to Starbucks stores across the country.

Blue Star Families Chapter Director, Wendy Layton, and Starbucks Store Manager, Coral, pose with a Blue star Families Yellow Ribbon Tree at a Starbucks in Jacksonville, FL.

These trees honor service members who are away over the holidays and serve as a physical symbol of a communities’ support for service members and their families. This year, over 100 Starbucks locations are hosting a Yellow Ribbon Tree!

Blue Star Families volunteers and Starbucks partners (employees) set up trees from Washington, to Texas, to Maryland, and everywhere in between. For Blue Star Families members and volunteers whose service members are away this year, the trees took on a special meaning. Jessica, a BSF volunteer put up three trees at Starbucks stores in her community and shared that “My husband is currently deployed so going out to do this this year meant a lot to us. Thank you so much.”

Despite all that has changed this year and the many holiday celebrations and plans put on hold, we are thankful to be able to continue this time-honored tradition and honor our service members this holiday season.
