USAA and The USAA Foundation has announced it will donate $2.3 million to military-focused nonprofits to support the COVID-19 response, bringing the total contributions to top $4.4 million across the country.

The financial support is in addition to the $2.1 million that USAA has directed to local nonprofits in USAA communities.

“All Americans are feeling the effects of this pandemic, including those who protect our freedom and their families,” USAA President and CEO Wayne Peacock said. “These organizations are on the front lines providing much-needed resources for military families, and we are honored to be able to help. It’s time for us to come together, to do our part; these resources are designed to provide relief during this crisis.”
Nonprofits included in the $2.3 million investment are:

  • The Association of Defense Communities/Blue Star Families COVID-19 Military Support Initiative
  • USO
  • We Care for America Foundation
  • Fisher House Foundation
  • Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors

The funds are set to help provide meals and emergency financial assistance for military families, care packages for troops deployed overseas and the development of best practices and policy recommendations to respond and recover from the coronavirus.

USAA and The USAA Foundation, Inc. will additionally help address the blood-supply shortage through the American Red Cross and help fund research to create coronavirus therapies and vaccines that could be lifesaving through Texas BioMed Research Institute in San Antonio.

Previously, USAA had made a $1 million donation to five San Antonio-area nonprofits and is set to give an additional $1.1 million to nonprofits in Phoenix, Tampa, Colorado Springs Dallas/Fort Worth and southeastern Virginia in an effort to combat the virus.
