Hey, military family transitioning into retirement. Did you know? Once you’re out of service, dental coverage is no longer part of your TRICARE health plan. You must opt-in for coverage.
Really. You need to know this 👇
Because … it’d be best if you didn’t find out — in the dentist’s chair — that you’re not covered by insurance. It could lead to you or someone in your family going for some time without caring for your teeth. (Yikes!) And we don’t want that for you.
So, here’s the deal.
If, in 2023, you or your spouse is retiring from the military, you’re eligible to get dental insurance without having to wait for FEDVIP Open Season (typically the second Monday of November to the second Monday of December each year).
Here at Blue Star Families, we’re not the experts, but there’s lots of information about supplemental insurance for military retirees (ask your command!). And if you want to talk to someone right now, we recommend our trusted Blue Star Partner, Blue Cross Blue Shield FEP Dental. They have an easy online tool to help you decide which plan is right for your military family: askblue.bcbsfepdental.com.
Or, if you prefer to talk to someone, call BCBS FEP Dental at 1-855-504-BLUE (2583) (TTY: 711).
So, seriously … do your research. We don’t want your military family to miss out on care upon retiring!
