Are you one of the 600,000 military families that will be moving this year? Are you attempting a Personally Procured Move (PPM)?
Picking up and moving as a military family, especially when trying to do it yourself, can be such a challenge. It can feel like an overwhelming task. Where do you even start with a PPM? Don’t worry because The Home Depot, an outstanding Blue Star Partner, has you covered with their PCS Moving Essentials Checklist!
Save time and stress with this helpful checklist so you can get from point A to point B with ease.
With a little prep work, you can break your PPM down into manageable tasks. Get rid of unwanted items so you don’t have to box them up and haul them with you or risk being over on your weight allotment. Remember to wait for hard orders before you start gathering supplies. Set aside items that you won’t, or can’t, take with you and make a plan for what to do with them. Also have cleaning supplies on hand to clean after all of your belongings are packed up.
Once you have orders in hand you’ll need:
- Boxes
- Tape
- Packing material
- A dolly
- A truck
And, here’s the best part — The Home Depot has everything you need to safely pack up your house from bubble wrap to boxes AND you can even rent a Penske truck direct from The Home Depot with a 15% off military discount on one-way and local moving trucks.
It’s truly a one-stop-shop for your military move.
As if that wasn’t awesome enough, you have The Home Depot’s Moving Essentials Checklist to guide you on your way. Grab it here.
Once you’ve got your boxes, add them to each room and take your time. Throw on some music or a movie to pass the time as you stow away your stuff. It helps to pack up the non-essential things first. Think out-of-season clothes, extra dishes, books, and other items that you won’t need immediately leading up to moving day. Label your boxes with your name and contact info, and add duct tape or colored stickers to indicate what room they belong in — that will help down the road when you’re unloading.
Whether it’s your first move or you’re a seasoned pro, The Home Depot’s helpful checklist is the perfect how-to guide to simplify your move, from pre-move to making your new house feel like home! That’s not all! The Home Depot isn’t just making your move easier, they’re saving you money, too! Did you know The Home Depot also gives active-duty service members, Veterans, and their spouses a 10% discount?
Give yourself time so you don’t feel rushed. Be sure to hop into The Neighborhood and join our PPM Group to get tips from other military families just like yours and then share your own tips and tricks.
