Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of the two National Guard members who were shot in Washington, D.C..
These soldiers are not strangers to us; they are our neighbors and co-workers, people who stepped away from everyday jobs and family routines to serve our nation.
The National Guard is made up of men and women who are well trained, deeply professional, and ready to answer the call whether that call comes from across the ocean or a few blocks from the White House.
Moments like this are frightening for every family with a loved one serving, because they bring into sharp focus the quiet risk that they and their families live with every day.
In this painful moment, I encourage everyone to do their part by supporting Guard members and their families with greater understanding, gratitude, and care.
We stand with all who serve in this unique role, not only in our words but in our continued commitment to their well-being and to the families who stand behind them.
We invite you to share your condolences and messages of support. Your words offer comfort, remind these families they are not alone, and help surround these blue star families with meaningful, heartfelt support.
