Public and Media Relations, Strategic Marketing and Digital Communications, Military Family Advisory Network

Rebekah Sanderlin is an Army wife, the author of the blog Operation Marriage, and co-founder and author of the “Home Is Where” book series, which helps military children learn about different posts to which their parents are assigned. As a writer, she focuses on military issues; her work has been featured by The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN.com, and National Public Radio. She also writes a weekly parenting column for Military.com.

Rebekah volunteers with several military-oriented nonprofits, including Blue Star Families, for which she conceived and spearheaded the Blue Star Families’ “This Country Cares” public service announcement campaign to reduce suicide rates among service members and military spouses.

Much of her volunteer work involves easing the burdens associated with military life, particularly the stressors that make maintaining marriages and families difficult. To that end, she met with the head of every federal government department in 2009, an effort that led to the 2010 Presidential Directive on Military Families. Also in 2009, Rebekah joined President Barack Obama and several members of his Cabinet as a speaker at the kickoff event for the National Fatherhood Initiative. In 2014 she joined Michelle Obama on stage as a speaker at the Joining Forces-Philanthropy launch event.

Rebekah graduated from Belmont University, where she majored in communications. She earned a master’s degree in communications at Johns Hopkins University.
