San Antonio's Eisenhower Park served as the picturesque backdrop for a sunset hike with Blue Star Connect Outdoors, where military families gathered for an evening of adventure and learning. Along with a hike, the event featured a bird rescue demonstration and an engaging nature scavenger hunt, offering a perfect blend of education and outdoor fun.

At sunset, families were greeted by the Last Chance Forever Birds of Prey, a dedicated organization known for helping sick and orphaned birds return to their natural habitat. Attendees were educated about the rehabilitation and conservation efforts involved in saving birds of prey through a presentation and a demonstration featuring select species. The interaction with the birds provided a unique opportunity for both children and adults to learn about and interact with local bird species.

Following the demonstration, participants embarked on a scenic sunset hike along a paved path. The hike, approximately two miles round-trip, led to an observation deck offering a breathtaking view of the sunset over the park's expansive landscape. The hike was designed to be accessible for all ages, ensuring that everyone could enjoy the beauty of the evening.

The experience was not only about the hike and the demonstration but also included a nature scavenger hunt that proved to be a highlight for many. The scavenger hunt was thoughtfully designed to be engaging for participants of all ages. It encouraged families to explore the natural surroundings, observe unique aspects of the park's environment, and learn about local flora and fauna.

Feedback from attendees highlighted the success of the event. Participant Angelica H. expressed her appreciation:

"Hello! First off, thank you so much for the wonderful hike. We learned so much and my kids had so much fun. The BSCO team is doing such a good job, and I believe everything went perfectly. I can’t wait to do more events with my family."

This sentiment was echoed by many others who were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the event and the gear provided for their comfort, which included hiking snacks, water, and other essentials. Additionally, families appreciated the chance to engage with the three Texas Naturalist volunteers who were on hand to offer insights and answer questions about the park's natural environment.

The event was a testament to the BSCO team's commitment to creating memorable and educational experiences for military families. By combining nature exploration with educational demonstrations and interactive activities, the event fostered a sense of community and connection among attendees. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to bond, learn, and enjoy the great outdoors together.

The Blue Star Connect Outdoors team’s dedication to organizing such enriching events ensures that military families have access to memorable experiences that celebrate the beauty of the natural world. We look forward to many more events that bring families together and offer opportunities for learning and adventure in the great outdoors.
