Did you know that only 27% of active-duty family respondents feel a sense of belonging in their local civilian community? Understanding how military families are feeling is just the first step Blue Star Families is taking to paint a robust picture of what life is like for those who serve and help civilian communities better integrate.
As the month of March came to a close, Blue Star Families released the results of the 2020 Military Family Lifestyle Survey (MFLS). This marked the first year the survey results release event was virtual. Panel discussions took place with a range of experts and data deep dives, all of which were open to the public, including the military-connected community, decision makers, and the media.
Each discussion covered one of the foremost issues impacting military families today, such as housing and financial stability, the impact on women, the experience of diverse families, and children’s mental health. Additionally, this year’s survey gave us deeper insights to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the military-connected community.
With nearly 11,000 survey respondents in 2020, the data collected serves as the blueprint for decision makers and organizations to create solutions that will support families, and provide them with the resources they need to thrive. Most importantly, this survey gives our military members and their families a voice and the opportunity to be heard.
