Connecticut Landmarks’ Nathan Hale Homestead is honoring heroes this July with the 4th annual Flag Field for Heroes. Purchase an American Flag in honor of a military service member, veteran or hero. Each flag will be decorated with the veteran’s name, branch of service, and their time period in the armed services. The Flag Field for Heroes will be on display from Saturday, July 3, through Saturday, July 31.

An opening ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at and will include a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and music by the Nathan Hale Ancient Fife and Drums.

The Flag Field for Heroes is presented in partnership with the Coventry Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Coventry American Legion. The Homestead is also a proud participant of the Blue Star Museums program, a collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families & the Department of Defense.

Noah’s Closet hosting stuff-a-bag sale

COVENTRY — Noah’s Closet sells gently used children’s clothing (newborn to size 10) sandals, swimwear, games, books, DVDs, toys and baby equipment.

A $10 stuff-a-bag sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 26. Noah’s Closet is located at 1746 Boston Turnpike. After the bag sale, Noah’s Closet will close for two weeks and re-open on Saturday, July 17.

In-person audience returning to Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts

STORRS — Like so many other presenting organizations across the country, Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on the UConn Storrs Campus developed virtual programming due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With generous support from long-time patrons and friends Jean and John Lenard, the Jorgensen CoStars and the Circle of Friends, Jorgensen Digital Stage was created, and Midsummer Music was born during the summer of 2020. The inaugural series featured three livestreamed performances by the Dover Quartet from Vail, Colorado.

The Midsummer Music Series will return this July with three concerts featuring the world-renowned Parker Quartet on the following dates: Wednesday, July 21; Sunday, July 25; and Thursday, July 29. The Quartet will perform live from Jorgensen Center to an in-person audience which will also be livestreamed on Jorgensen Digital Stage. Members of the quartet will participate in a post-concert Q&A on July 25.

On July 21, the Parker Quartet will perform Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 3, “Mishima” and Robert Schumann’s String Quartet No. 3 in A Major, Op. 41, No. 3. The July 25 performance will feature Antonin Dvorak’s selections from Cypresses, B. 152 and Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 15 in A Minor, Op. 132. The final Midsummer Music performance on July 29 will feature Florence Price’s selections from Five Folksongs in Counterpoint and Bedrich Smetana’s String Quartet No. 1 in E Minor, “From My Life.”

In-person ticket and livestream information can be found at jorgensen.uconnn.edu. Each concert can be livestreamed for $30 per device or attended in-person for $36 general admission seating. In-person seating will be socially distanced and limited to 250 people. All patrons, Jorgensen staff and artists will be required to wear a mask for each of the performances. Livestream ticket purchase includes one unique link for viewing the performances. Viewing is limited to one device at a time. The livestream will open 15 minutes prior to each concert.

Midsummer Music is made possible through the generosity of the Lenard Chamber Music Endowment. Thanks to the Endowment, UConn students, non-UConn students, and youth (K-12) are invited to attend all chamber music events for free, including the Midsummer Music concerts.
