Did you know you could save hundreds of dollars on your military family’s vision needs (including all those pairs of glasses) by getting supplemental vision care? Because supplemental vision care is a relatively new option for military families, there are still many questions. So we called our friends from Blue Cross Blue Shield FEP Vision, a trusted #BlueStarPartner, to help.
Can I order contacts for my military family online when stationed overseas?
Yes. Many military families use providers like Warby Parker and 1-800 Contacts when living overseas because they’re convenient and easy to use.
Will TRICARE cover this?
Unfortunately, no. You pay out-of-pocket unless you have supplemental insurance through a vision plan like Blue Cross Blue Shield FEP Vision.
Does supplemental insurance cover my kids?
Yes! With supplemental insurance, you pay an affordable monthly fee for a “Family Plan” that gets you an allowance on frames and contacts.
Can I sign up today?
Not today, but soon! Military families can enroll during Open Season, November 14th – December 12th. But if you have a qualifying life event like having a baby, getting married, or retiring from service, you can enroll outside of Open Season.
Now is the time to better understand what your family needs so you can sign up for the best options for things like vision checks, new glasses, contacts, and more during Open Season this year. Take this short, interactive quiz to see if supplemental insurance can save your #militaryfamily money. Or call BCBS FEP Vision at 1-888-550-2583 (TTY: 1-800-523-2847).
Eye see a bright future ahead for you!
