Summer is in full swing and the Fourth of July is here! Independence Day is a day of profound significance for military families, intertwining the celebration of national freedom with personal experiences of service and sacrifice.
Many military families are or will be moving this summer, making this the perfect time to meet new people. If you’re hosting a barbecue or gathering, invite new neighbors to welcome them. Consider holding gatherings in the front yard to open up your celebration to those that pass by and draw people out of their homes — make it a block party! Community events like firework displays or parades can also make a great place to meet people in the local area.
Celebrate the Fourth Locally
Across the country, there will be celebrations of our nation’s independence, from fireworks displays to parades. Our Chapters will be attending fun outings together; be sure to see what‘s happening in your area by joining your local Chapter’s community in the Blue Star Neighborhood.
Tune in on Thursday, July 4th, to celebrate America’s birthday in a big way. For more than 40 years, A Capitol Fourth has delighted crowds, both in person and on television, with a star-studded lineup of performers and fireworks. Check your local listings or catch the live stream here.
As you get settled into your new communities this year, or welcome those new to your area, enjoy all that summer has to offer. Visit Blue Star Museums, a wonderful (and free!) way to explore where you live and serve. Now is the time to get out and explore! From zoos to nature centers, art museums, and science centers, there are exciting places to explore, no matter where you are!
Take the Celebration Outside
The exploration doesn’t have to stop there! Get outdoors this summer! As service members and dependents, you can obtain your complimentary annual America the Beautiful Pass at most national park ranger stations and entry gates using your military ID! Gold Star Family members and Veterans are eligible for a lifetime pass. Check out our new Blue Star Connect Outdoors Facebook page and the Blue Star Connect Outdoors Community in The Neighborhood to get connected with outdoor adventurers near you!
Whichever way you choose to celebrate the birth of our nation this week, know that Blue Star Families is here to support you every step of the way, no matter where the military takes you.
