Planning new outdoor adventures just got a whole lot easier for service-connected families! The brand-new Military Families Outdoors (MFO) website is packed with resources and information for all families, whether they are seasoned outdoor adventurers or they are just getting started.
What is the Military Families Outdoors Program?
Military Families Outdoors, administered by the Defense Health Agency and the National Park Service, brings together the expertise of Blue Star Families, Wilderness Inquiry, Armed Services YMCA, YMCA of the USA, and The Center for Health & Nature to offer enriching outdoor experiences for service members and their families across the nation. This program features a diverse range of park and nature-based activities, from canoe trips around the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore to bird watching in Miami, whale watching on Whidbey Island, and extended backpacking in Yellowstone National Park. By providing both virtual and in-person programming, Military Families Outdoors aims to foster physical, mental, and spiritual health, while strengthening family bonds and improving overall well-being among active-duty service members and their families.
